Dhanki[b] is a 2023 Indian Hindi comedy film based on an illegal immigration technique called 'donkey escape'. The film is written, co-produced, edited and directed by Rajkumar Hirani under Rajkumar Hirani Films along with Geo Studios and Red Chillies Entertainment. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal (special appearance announced) and Boman Irani.
Plot:
In 2020, an elderly Manu Randhawa escapes from a hospital in London, England and meets Puru Patel, an immigration lawyer. Puru connects her with her ex-lover Hardayal “Hardi” Singh Dhillon in Laltu, Punjab. Mr. Hardy was overjoyed to receive a phone call from his girlfriend, his first in 25 years. Since she cannot get an Indian visa, she asks him to meet her in Dubai (UAE) to take her back to India via the Dhanki route.

At the end of November 2020, Rajkumar Hirani, who had previously approached Shah Rukh Khan to star in the films Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. Although he was turned down, he reportedly teamed up with Khan on his next directorial project.[7] Hirani told this story to Khan during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown.[8] The film will be Khan and Hirani's first collaboration. The script was completed in August 2021, and the film version was announced in April 2022.[9][10] Hirani co-wrote the film with Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon.[7] Cinematographer Amit Roy was the first choice, but dropped out due to creative differences with Hirani and was replaced by C.K. Muraleedharan. This is his fourth collaboration with Hirani after ``Rage Raho Munna Bhai'' (2006), ``3 Idiots'', and ``PK'' (2014).[11] Manush Nandan, Amit Roy, and Kumar Pankaj are also reported to have worked on the film as cinematographers.[12][13]
